India Highlights Pakistan’s Human Rights Abuses at UN Rights Council
India slams Pakistan’s human rights record, exposes falsehoods.
In a fiery rebuttal at the 60th Session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), India tore into Pakistan, branding it a nation with one of the world’s most deplorable human rights records while accusing it of peddling fabricated allegations to deflect from its own systemic failures. Counsellor K S Mohammed Hussain, from India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, delivered the blistering remarks during a General Debate, calling out Pakistan’s audacity to “lecture others” while ignoring rampant state-sponsored persecution of religious and ethnic minorities at home.
“It’s deeply ironic that a country steeped in human rights abuses dares to misuse this forum with baseless propaganda against India,” Hussain declared, without naming Pakistan directly but leaving no doubt about the target. The sharp retort followed Pakistan’s attempt to raise the Kashmir issue, a move India swiftly countered by reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and shall forever remain” an inalienable part of the nation. “Their hypocrisy stands exposed,” Hussain added, urging Pakistan to confront its own “systemic discrimination” instead of spreading falsehoods.
India’s statement underscored its unwavering commitment to advancing human rights and sustainable development for its 1.4 billion citizens. Hussain highlighted India’s progress in ensuring equitable access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, aligning with the principles of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action (VDPA). Adopted in 1993, the VDPA remains a cornerstone for global human rights advocacy, reinforcing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. “India stands firm in upholding these ideals, while others exploit this platform for political point-scoring,” he said.

The clash comes amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions, with Islamabad frequently raising Kashmir at international forums, only to face India’s resolute pushback. Experts view India’s stance as a strategic effort to shift the narrative, spotlighting Pakistan’s documented abuses—such as the persecution of Ahmadis, Christians, and Baloch communities—while showcasing its own strides, like the Swachh Bharat Mission and Aadhaar-enabled welfare schemes.
Social media buzzed with support for India’s stance, with hashtags like #IndiaAtUNHRC trending. As the UNHRC session continues, India’s call for collective commitment to human rights principles signals its intent to lead by example, leaving Pakistan’s accusations in the dust.
