India Delivers Emergency Medical Supplies to Afghanistan Following Kabul Hospital Strike

India on Friday dispatched a 2.5-tonne consignment of emergency medical supplies to Afghanistan in response to the recent airstrikes on Kabul that resulted in significant civilian casualties. The aid, comprising medicines, medical disposables, kits, and equipment, is aimed at supporting the treatment and recovery of those injured in the attack on a major hospital facility in the Afghan capital.

According to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the humanitarian assistance underscores India’s continued commitment to supporting the Afghan people during a period of crisis. In a statement, he said India stands in solidarity with Afghanistan and will extend all possible support to aid recovery efforts following what he described as a “heinous attack” that took place on March 16.

The assistance follows airstrikes reportedly carried out by Pakistan targeting the 2,000-bed Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul’s Pul-e-Charkhi area. The attack is said to have resulted in over 400 deaths and left more than 250 people injured, making it one of the deadliest incidents in recent months. India strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a “cowardly and unconscionable act of violence” against civilians in a medical facility that cannot be justified as a military target.

In its response, India accused Pakistan of attempting to portray the attack as a legitimate military operation, while asserting that it amounted to a blatant violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and a threat to regional stability. The MEA further described the incident as part of a broader pattern of “reckless behaviour” and external aggression, adding that targeting a hospital during the holy month of Ramadan made the act particularly reprehensible.

India also urged the international community to hold those responsible accountable and to ensure an immediate halt to attacks on civilians in Afghanistan. Expressing condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a swift recovery for the injured, New Delhi reiterated its support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The delivery of medical aid highlights India’s ongoing humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan even amid escalating regional tensions.
