India And UK Strengthen Defence Ties Through Expanded Cyber And Intelligence Cooperation
CDS visit strengthens India-UK defence ties in multiple sectors.
India and the United Kingdom on Monday strengthened their defence partnership as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan began his first official visit to the UK, marking a significant step forward in bilateral military cooperation between the two countries.
General Chauhan was accorded a ceremonial Step Line and received by his UK counterpart, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, underscoring what officials described as a “future-ready” defence partnership. The visit also represents the fifth high-level military engagement between India and the UK this year, reflecting accelerating strategic coordination.
During their meeting in London, the two defence chiefs held wide-ranging discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas such as cyber security, intelligence sharing, industrial collaboration, and joint military exercises. According to the Indian High Commission in London, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening global security, stability, and resilience.

The Headquarters of Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) noted that General Chauhan also interacted with India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram K. Doraiswami, and engaged with senior UK civil and military leadership during his three-day visit. The UK Defence Ministry said that additional meetings with defence officials and industry representatives are planned to advance discussions on co-production and defence manufacturing partnerships.
A key focus of the visit is expanding collaboration between defence industries of both nations, with British defence companies expected to hold talks with the Indian CDS on potential joint development and manufacturing initiatives. General Chauhan is also scheduled to visit the Royal College of Defence Studies, where he will interact with a multinational group of defence professionals.
The visit follows a series of recent high-level exchanges between the two countries. In March, UK Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smyth visited India and held discussions with senior Indian military leadership, including Chief of Defence Staff General Chauhan and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. Those meetings focused on enhancing training exchanges, intelligence cooperation, and operational interoperability.
Officials said both sides have made steady progress through structured defence dialogue mechanisms, including the Military Sub Group framework, with an emphasis on building deeper integration and long-term strategic alignment. The latest visit is seen as part of broader efforts to institutionalise defence cooperation and strengthen ties between the armed forces of India and the UK.
