India And Moldova Agree To Enhance Trade, Investment And Supply Chain Links

India and Moldova have agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, supply chains and connectivity as part of efforts to expand bilateral relations. President Droupadi Murmu announced the agreement on Monday during a joint press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu following their talks at the Presidential Palace in Chisinau. The discussions focused on deepening economic, diplomatic and developmental cooperation between the two countries.

President Murmu expressed gratitude to President Sandu for the warm welcome extended to her during her historic State visit to Moldova, which marks the first-ever visit by an Indian President to the country. She said India and Moldova have maintained friendly relations for more than three decades and that the partnership has continued to grow based on shared commitments to peace, development and international cooperation.

Highlighting the outcomes of the discussions, President Murmu said both countries reviewed the progress made in bilateral ties and agreed to enhance cooperation in areas that contribute to the prosperity and well-being of their people. She identified economic cooperation as a key pillar of the relationship and said the two sides would work together in sectors including agriculture, logistics, infrastructure, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence and innovation.

Education and capacity building were also discussed as important areas of collaboration. President Murmu said India would increase International Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training opportunities for Moldovan professionals, including specialised programmes in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. She added that Moldovan diplomats would be invited to participate in AI and cyber diplomacy courses conducted by India’s Foreign Service Institute.

The President also highlighted cooperation in global initiatives, stating that India and Moldova are progressing under the International Solar Alliance. She expressed hope that Moldova would join platforms such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Global Biofuels Alliance, further expanding collaboration on climate and sustainable development issues.

During the talks, both leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments and reaffirmed their commitment to peace, dialogue and respect for international law. President Murmu reiterated India’s position that disputes and tensions should be resolved through diplomacy and peaceful discussions, saying the two countries would continue working together to address global challenges and contribute towards a stable and cooperative world order.
