India And France Strengthen Partnership Against Terrorism And Radicalisation
Nations pledge stronger cooperation, tackling extremism and cross-border terror threats together.
India and France have pledged to deepen their collaboration in combating terrorism, extremism, and radicalization following a meeting of the India-France Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter-Terrorism in Paris on Thursday. Both nations strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which targeted innocent civilians, underscoring their shared resolve to address such threats.
The JWG discussions, led by K.D. Dewal, Joint Secretary (Counter-Terrorism) from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Olivier Caron, French Counter-Terrorism Ambassador, focused on current threat assessments, including state-sponsored cross-border terrorism and regional terror activities, particularly in the Middle East. The two sides also addressed challenges posed by terrorists’ use of new technologies and the spread of online propaganda, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to counter extremism and radicalization.
India and France explored enhanced bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including capacity-building through training and joint exercises. The dialogue covered collaboration under global frameworks such as the United Nations, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and the No Money for Terror (NMFT) initiative. Both nations agreed to broaden their counter-terrorism dialogue to include tackling organized crime and improving information sharing on mutual concerns.
