India And Australia Agree To Strengthen Cyber Security And Critical Technology Partnership
Both nations deepen cooperation in digital and emerging technologies.
India and Australia have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in cyber security, critical technologies and resilient supply chains as officials from both countries work to implement their new partnership. Amit Shukla, Joint Secretary for Cyber Diplomacy at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, held discussions with Jessica Hunter, Australia’s Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology, during his visit to Australia. The meeting focused on the longstanding partnership between the two countries in cyber and critical technologies and ways to operationalise the Australia-India Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains (PACTS).
The partnership brings cyber security, critical technologies and supply-chain resilience under a broader strategic framework, with cooperation structured around five key pillars. The two countries view these areas as increasingly important not only for economic growth but also for national security and their ability to contribute to global technology standards and norms.
The discussions come as India and Australia continue to deepen their broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with technology and supply-chain resilience emerging as important areas of bilateral engagement. The focus on practical cooperation reflects the growing importance of secure and reliable technology ecosystems across the Indo-Pacific.

During the visit, Shukla also participated in an AI masterclass organised by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in Canberra, joining a panel on artificial intelligence adoption across the Indo-Pacific. Hunter said the discussion brought together perspectives from India and Papua New Guinea and examined how countries can balance innovation, security and economic prosperity while adopting AI.
Hunter also highlighted India's experience in deploying technology at scale and referred to the country's recent AI initiatives and practical work streams. She said that sharing practical use cases, strengthening partnerships and recognising the unique value of different parts of the AI technology ecosystem could help the Indo-Pacific build an inclusive and practical AI-enabled future.
