Imran Khan's Sons Fear 'Irreversible Harm' in Jail—Authorities Blocking All Access
Imran Khan’s sons fear for his health amid alleged mistreatment in Adiala Jail, Pakistan.
Imran Khan's sons, Kasim Khan and Suleiman Isa Khan, expressed grave fears to Reuters that Pakistani authorities may have inflicted "something irreversible" on their father while incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The 72-year-old former Prime Minister, jailed since August 2023 on multiple corruption charges including the Toshakhana case involving alleged illegal sale of state gifts, has had court-ordered prison visits blocked for over three weeks, leaving his family without verifiable proof of his wellbeing. Kasim, speaking from London where he lives with his brother and mother Jemima Goldsmith (Khan's ex-wife), described the isolation as "psychological torture."
The sons highlighted that Khan's personal physician has been denied access for over a year, intensifying concerns about his health amid reports of solitary confinement and mistreatment. An anonymous jail official assured Reuters that Khan remains healthy and stable with no transfer to higher-security facilities, but PTI party leaders and supporters protest outside the prison, demanding immediate access. PTI spokesperson Zulfi Bukhari noted no meetings since November 4, violating standard weekly visitor allowances. Khan's sisters have also alleged brutal assaults inside the facility.
Media restrictions compound the opacity: Pakistani TV channels are barred from using Khan's name or images beyond a low-resolution court photo from online sources—the last public visual of him. Kasim called this "intentional," attributing it to fears of Khan's enduring popularity as Pakistan's most favored leader, whom authorities cannot defeat democratically. The family last saw him in November 2022 after a failed assassination attempt. Khan maintains all 150+ charges, including terrorism and state secrets, are politically motivated to sideline him post his 2022 ouster.

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif countered by claiming Khan receives "premium facilities" like five-star hotel food, TV, exercise equipment, and a velvet mattress, dismissing death rumors. PTI demands urgent meetings, with protests and senatorial calls for access amid concurrent 14-year sentences served concurrently. The crisis underscores deepening political tensions, with Khan's PTI facing crackdowns including 108 members jailed for 2023 protests.
As investigations into his conditions continue, the standoff highlights Pakistan's fragile democracy, with Khan's isolation fueling supporter unrest despite official assurances of his stability.
