Imran Khan Death Rumours: Family Demands Proof of Life as Adiala Jail Denies Claims
Family accuses Pakistan of hiding ex-PM's fate amid jail isolation crisis.
Speculation about the death of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has surged across social media platforms following unverified reports from Afghan and Baloch media outlets alleging he was tortured and killed inside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail by intelligence agencies and military leaders. The jailed PTI chief's son, Qasim Khan, issued a vehement public demand on X for immediate proof of his father's survival, immediate release and an end to what he described as deliberate isolation tactics designed to obscure Khan's condition.
Qasim detailed that his father has endured 845 days in custody, including the past six weeks in a solitary death cell typically reserved for condemned prisoners, with zero family contact despite explicit court directives permitting visits. He recounted how Khan's sisters were repeatedly denied access, forcing them to wait hours outside the facility, and emphasised that his brother and he have received no updates on their father's health or location.
Qasim Khan condemned the blackout as a calculated ploy exceeding any legitimate security measures, vowing that the Pakistani government and its influential backers would face full accountability under legal, moral and international law for any harm befalling Khan. He extended a direct appeal to global human rights bodies and foreign governments to compel Islamabad to verify Khan's well-being, enforce visitation rights, dismantle the isolation regime and liberate the nation's most prominent opposition figure, whom he portrayed as a victim of politically engineered prosecutions.

Khan's sister Aleema Khanum echoed these grievances in a telephone interview, revealing that authorities have sporadically obstructed family meetings for months, alternating between partial permissions and outright refusals that leave relatives stranded for extended periods. The pattern of interference, she asserted, has only intensified since Khan's convictions in multiple corruption cases alongside his wife, Bushra Bibi, in January.
Adiala Jail officials categorically dismissed the death claims on Thursday, affirming that Khan remains in excellent health within the facility and receives comprehensive medical attention, including exercise provisions. The administration notified PTI leadership of his status, debunked any transfer rumours as fabricated social media falsehoods and reiterated that all standard care protocols are being followed for the former premier, who has been detained since August 2023 on what supporters decry as fabricated charges.
