IMD Issues Rain And Thunderstorm Alert For 25 Rajasthan Districts

Rain and thunderstorm alert issued across Rajasthan districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a thunderstorm and rainfall alert for 25 districts across Rajasthan, even as weather experts warned that intense heatwave conditions are likely to return to western parts of the state from June 8 onward. The state has been experiencing temporary relief from extreme summer temperatures due to active pre-monsoon weather systems, bringing rain, strong winds and localized hailstorms in several regions.

According to weather officials, districts including Banswara, Bundi and Bhilwara received up to three inches of rainfall between June 4 and June 5, significantly cooling down daytime temperatures. Hailstorms were also reported from parts of Churu, Hanumangarh and Bikaner, disrupting normal conditions in several areas. The rainfall activity led to a noticeable drop in mercury levels, with temperatures falling by up to 5 degrees Celsius in multiple districts.

Daytime temperatures in several cities, including Jaipur, Dausa, Karauli, Dungarpur and Nagaur, remained below 35 degrees Celsius, offering respite from the intense summer heat. However, the IMD noted that while thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to continue for the next two days, the weather pattern is likely to shift towards dry conditions from June 8, increasing the risk of heatwave resurgence in western Rajasthan.

Despite the widespread rain activity, some regions continued to record high temperatures. Phalodi registered the highest maximum temperature in the state at 42.2 degrees Celsius, while Jodhpur recorded the highest minimum temperature at 31.9 degrees Celsius. Other notable readings included 42.1 degrees Celsius in Jaisalmer, 41.5 degrees Celsius in Sri Ganganagar, and around 40 degrees Celsius in several western districts, indicating persistent heat in desert areas.

The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Vanasthali in Tonk district at 21.8 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, moderate temperatures were observed across central and southern Rajasthan, with Udaipur recording 37 degrees Celsius and Pilani at 37.2 degrees Celsius. Weather officials said these variations reflect the impact of shifting pre-monsoon systems across different parts of the state.

Rainfall activity between June 4 and June 5 was particularly significant in parts of the Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Kota and Bikaner divisions. The highest rainfall of 75 mm was recorded in Shahpura in Bhilwara district, followed by 45 mm in Ajmer and 34 mm in several locations including Bundi and Bharatpur. With weather conditions changing rapidly, authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms while preparing for a likely return of intense heat in the coming days.
