IAF Chief Hails Operation Sindoor as Global Model for Swift Conflict Resolution
Operation Sindoor teaches world to end conflicts decisively, not endlessly.
Indian Air Force Chief Amarpreet Singh commended the prompt resolution of the May conflict with Pakistan through Operation Sindoor, urging global leaders to study it as a model for terminating hostilities effectively. At the India Defence Conclave 2025 hosted by Bharat Shakti, he contrasted India's approach with protracted international wars, criticizing the latter for abandoning initial objectives in favor of ego and self-pride. Singh emphasized that maintaining focus on aims prevents indefinite escalation, a principle exemplified by India's forces during the operation.
Operation Sindoor unfolded on May 7 when Indian Army and Air Force units precisely targeted nine terror infrastructure sites deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, achieving core objectives within hours. Over the subsequent four days, Pakistani forces mounted responses, but by May 10, their commanders requested a ceasefire, which India accepted, concluding the engagement. Singh highlighted the clarity of purpose driving Indian operations, noting that unlike ego-driven conflicts elsewhere, this one avoided prolonged uncertainty and adhered strictly to strategic goals.
The Air Chief Marshal pointed out that India offered a ceasefire immediately after initial strikes, but proceeded only after the adversary conceded defeat, wrapping up the operation in just 85 hours. He warned that without this decisive halt, the situation could have spiraled into unpredictable directions, underscoring an underappreciated aspect of the success: the ability to disengage while holding the advantage. This restraint, he argued, preserved resources and prevented broader regional instability.

Singh's observations align with broader reflections on modern warfare, where initial aims often dissolve into personal vendettas, as seen in ongoing global conflicts lacking resolution. By prioritizing selection and maintenance of objectives, India demonstrated a disciplined alternative, offering lessons for nations entangled in drawn-out battles driven by pride rather than pragmatism.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan echoed these sentiments at the same conclave, stating that Operation Sindoor provided critical insights for advancing India's theaterisation model. He advocated for enhanced intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and kinetic capabilities spanning Pakistan's entirety as the emerging standard, bolstering air defense, counter-unmanned aerial systems, and electronic warfare preparedness to meet anticipated threats.
