Holi 2026, the festival of colors, will see schools across India observing varying holiday dates depending on the state. Students and parents are advised to confirm with their respective schools, as individual institutions are expected to issue formal notices.
In Uttar Pradesh, the state government has declared a three-day public holiday from March 2 to March 4. All government offices and educational institutions will remain closed, and February salaries and pensions are to be disbursed before the festival. February 28, 2026, will remain a working day, while March 3 will be a holiday for employees.
In Delhi, most schools are conducting examinations, but no exams will be held on Holi. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also decided not to conduct any board exams on March 4.

Holi will be celebrated on March 3 in states including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Goa, Jharkhand, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. Schools in these states are expected to remain closed on that day. Bihar schools will observe the festival on March 3 and March 4, according to the state’s academic calendar.
On March 4, the festival will be officially celebrated in Gujarat, Mizoram, Odisha, Chandigarh, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh. Schools in these regions will remain closed on the day of Holi.
Students and parents should check with their respective schools to confirm the exact holiday schedule, as dates may vary between institutions.
