Historic India-UK Trade Pact Set for July 24 Signing in London
Modi, Goyal to seal deal boosting trade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, will visit London on July 24, 2025, to sign a landmark free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the UK, an official announced on July 21. The deal, finalized on May 6, aims to double bilateral trade to USD 120 billion by 2030.
The FTA will eliminate tariffs on Indian exports like leather, footwear, and clothing, while reducing duties on British whisky and cars, fostering economic growth for both nations. Modi’s four-day visit, starting July 23, will also cover the Maldives and focus on strengthening ties in trade, investment, and defense.
Post-signing, the agreement requires approval from the British Parliament and India’s Cabinet, with implementation expected within a year. The pact promises enhanced market access and economic cooperation, aligning with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
