Heavy Rain in Delhi Triggers Widespread IndiGo Flight Delays at IGI Airport

Operations for IndiGo Airlines at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi were disrupted on Monday due to inclement weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings of heavy rain and gusty winds across the region. Several flights experienced delays, while a few were rescheduled to ensure passenger safety amid deteriorating weather conditions.
Airport authorities reported that flight departures and arrivals were temporarily affected, causing a ripple effect across the national flight schedule. IndiGo, India’s largest carrier by passenger numbers, confirmed that it was actively managing operations and coordinating with the airport control tower to minimize inconvenience to passengers.
The IMD forecast indicated that parts of Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) could experience thunderstorms and intermittent heavy rainfall throughout the day. Passengers were advised to check flight status updates and plan their travel accordingly.

A spokesperson for IndiGo stated that the airline prioritizes safety above all and has contingency plans in place to handle weather-related disruptions. Ground staff were deployed to assist travelers, manage boarding procedures, and provide updates regarding rescheduled or delayed flights.
Travelers reported longer waiting times at the airport, with many flights experiencing delays ranging from 30 minutes to over two hours. Airport officials noted that operations would gradually return to normal as weather conditions stabilize, but advised passengers to remain patient and stay informed about their flights.
Analysts point out that seasonal weather disturbances are a recurring challenge for Delhi airport operations, particularly during pre-monsoon and monsoon months. Airlines and airport authorities continue to enhance weather monitoring systems and contingency measures to minimize the impact on passengers and maintain flight safety standards.
