Heavy Rain Forecast For Nilgiris, Coimbatore As Tamil Nadu Sees Widespread Showers
Nilgiris and Coimbatore may receive heavy rain on Sunday.
Moderate rain accompanied by strong winds is likely across several districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday and Sunday, with the Western Ghats and parts of southern and central Tamil Nadu expected to receive showers. The Meteorological Department has attributed the weather conditions to a cyclonic circulation over the southeastern Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast, which is expected to influence rainfall over parts of the state.
The forecast indicates that the Western Ghats districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall, while Madurai, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga are also expected to experience showers. Pudukkottai, Tiruchi, Ariyalur and Perambalur are among the central districts covered by the forecast. Strong winds are likely to accompany the rain in several of these areas as the weather system continues to affect the state.
The Meteorological Centre has specifically forecast heavy rainfall in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Theni districts on Sunday, October 4. The four districts are expected to experience more intense rainfall compared with areas where only moderate showers have been forecast. The Western Ghats and adjoining regions are likely to see the most significant impact from the prevailing weather system during the weekend.

For Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri, the department has forecast moderate rain on Sunday. The showers are expected to extend across western and adjoining parts of Tamil Nadu, with rainfall intensity varying from one district to another. The forecast suggests that hill districts and areas close to the Western Ghats could receive heavier spells than the rest of the state.
The wet conditions are expected to persist for longer in the Nilgiris and Coimbatore. According to the Meteorological Centre, these two districts could continue to receive heavy rainfall until October 6, extending the spell beyond the weekend. Dindigul and Theni, meanwhile, have been specifically identified for heavy rain on Sunday.
Chennai is expected to receive comparatively lighter rainfall, with the department forecasting light rain on Saturday evening or during the night. Overall, the latest outlook points to widespread showers across Tamil Nadu, with moderate rain and strong winds in several districts and a higher likelihood of heavy rainfall in parts of western Tamil Nadu.
