Haryana Women's Commission Seeks Arrest of Rapper Badshah Over Tateeree Song Controversy

The Haryana State Commission for Women has sought the arrest of rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the commission in connection with allegations that his recently released Haryanvi music video Tateeree contains objectionable lyrics and visuals. The commission issued the request on Friday after the artist did not comply with a notice directing him to present himself before the panel for questioning regarding complaints about the song.

According to officials, the notice was originally issued on March 6, instructing Badshah to appear before the commission in Panipat by 3 PM on Friday. When the rapper failed to attend the hearing within the given deadline, the commission escalated the matter. The panel stated that the alleged content of the music video could be offensive to women and required clarification from the artist regarding the creative intent and portrayal in the song.

Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia told reporters that directions had been issued to initiate action against the rapper. She said authorities had been asked to seize Badshah’s passport to prevent him from leaving the country while the inquiry was ongoing. Bhatia also confirmed that the commission had recommended his arrest after repeated warnings and his failure to respond to the summons.

The controversy surrounding the music video has triggered wider discussion about the responsibility of artists and producers in ensuring that creative content does not promote or normalise disrespect toward women. The women’s commission maintains that it is acting within its mandate to safeguard women’s dignity and has indicated that further action may follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.
