Haryana Congress Publicly Reveals Four MLAs Involved in Cross-Voting During Rajya Sabha Elections

Haryana Congress names four MLAs for cross-voting in Rajya Sabha polls; disciplinary action is imminent.

The Congress on Wednesday publicly identified four of its MLAs from Haryana who allegedly cross-voted in the recent Rajya Sabha elections in favour of the ruling BJP, exposing internal rifts within the party.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Haryana Congress in-charge BK Hariprasad named the legislators as Shalley Chaudhary from Naraingarh, Mohammad Ilyas from Punahana, Mohammad Israel from Hathin, and Renu Bala from Sadhaura. He said the State party’s disciplinary committee, headed by Dharampal Malik, has been informed and show-cause notices will be issued. The fifth MLA involved was not disclosed.

Hariprasad alleged that the election process was influenced by “money, muscle power, and institutional pressure,” claiming that several votes were deliberately invalidated to alter the outcome. He said, “We had 37 votes, but five or six were declared invalid. After examining the ballots personally with the Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, it was confirmed that four MLAs had cross-voted.”

Earlier in the day, two Congress MLAs, Gokul Setia from Sirsa and Manju Chaudhary from Nangal Chaudha, staged a dharna at the party office in Chandigarh, demanding the public naming of cross-voting legislators and clarification regarding invalidated ballots. The protest was later called off after Hooda intervened, asserting that neither legislator had cross-voted or had their votes invalidated.

The development follows the resignation of Ramkishan Gurjar, husband of Shalley Chaudhary, from both the Congress and his post as party working president. Reports suggest that Chaudhary and Bala are close associates of Congress MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja.

The Congress emphasized that it will not tolerate indiscipline and vowed strict action against those involved in cross-voting, reinforcing its commitment to uphold party discipline amid allegations of internal dissent.
