Haniya Ayesha Dead, Husband Injured After Truck Hits Scooty in Hyderabad's Madhapur Area
The truck dragged 22-year-old Haniya Ayesha's scooty for one kilometre before fleeing Hyderabad.
A 22-year-old woman was killed and her husband seriously injured after a truck rammed into their scooty and dragged it for nearly a kilometre in the Mindspace area of Madhapur late on Saturday night, police said. The incident has sparked concern over road safety in one of the city’s busiest commercial zones.
The deceased has been identified as Haniya Ayesha, who was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Her husband, Abdul Basit, 26, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. According to officials, the couple was returning home after watching a movie when the accident occurred.
Police said that following the collision, Basit was thrown off the vehicle onto the roadside, while Ayesha and the scooty got trapped under the truck. The vehicle continued moving, dragging both for nearly a kilometre, leading to fatal injuries. The sequence of events was described by witnesses as extremely distressing.

Several motorists who witnessed the incident chased the truck and eventually forced it to stop. However, the driver managed to flee the scene before law enforcement authorities arrived. Local residents were able to apprehend the truck’s cleaner and handed him over to the police for questioning.
Authorities confirmed that the truck, which bears a Karnataka registration, has been seized as part of the investigation. The cleaner is currently in custody, while multiple police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the absconding driver. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The couple, originally from Kerala, were employed at a jewellery outlet in Hyderabad. Ayesha’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and officials are continuing to gather evidence related to the incident. The case has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved road safety measures in urban areas.
