Hamas Denounces U.S.-Backed Resolution as Threat to Palestinian Self-Governance

Gaza rulers blast Security Council vote as assault on Palestinian sovereignty.

Hamas issued a blistering rejection just hours after the UN Security Council overwhelmingly endorsed President Donald Trump’s Gaza stabilization blueprint on Monday, declaring the resolution “utterly fails to meet the political and humanitarian demands and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.” The Islamist movement, which has governed Gaza since 2007, accused the text of ignoring core Palestinian aspirations while imposing foreign control over the territory.

At the heart of Hamas’s fury is the planned International Stabilization Force, which the group branded an “international trusteeship” designed to strip Palestinians of their weapons and self-governance. The statement singled out language implying disarmament of armed factions, calling it an existential threat to Palestinian resistance and a blatant violation of the right to self-defense under international law.

The U.S.-drafted resolution, which passed 13-0 with only Russia and China abstaining, authorises a multinational contingent until the end of 2027, renewable thereafter, and establishes Trump’s personally chaired “Board of Peace” to monitor ceasefire compliance, reconstruction, and progress toward a two-state solution. Washington hailed the outcome as “historic,” but Hamas dismissed it as a unilateral imposition dressed up as diplomacy.

Hamas vowed that the people of Gaza, along with all its political and military factions, categorically reject any arrangement that sidelines Palestinian authority or dismantles their armed capabilities. The group warned that attempts to deploy the force without its consent would face fierce opposition on the ground.

With Hamas still controlling significant military assets and administrative structures inside Gaza, Monday’s outright rejection throws an immediate wrench into implementation plans and underscores the steep challenges ahead for the Trump administration’s ambitious Middle East peace push.
