Gunman Takes Thai School Hostage – Three Injured Before Capture
A shocking hostage situation at a school in southern Thailand leaves three injured before the gunman is detained.
A tense hostage situation unfolded on Wednesday afternoon at Patong Prethankiriwat School in Hat Yai District, Songkhla province, southern Thailand. An 18-year-old gunman reportedly entered the school and took an unknown number of students and teachers hostage, prompting swift action from local authorities.
Authorities confirmed via social media that the hostage situation has been resolved and the gunman has been detained. At the time of reporting, no hostages remain in custody, and emergency teams have secured the school premises.
Police confirmed that three people were injured during the incident, although their identities and current medical condition have not yet been disclosed. Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Gun violence is not uncommon in Thailand. In 2022, a former police officer carried out a deadly attack at a nursery in the country’s east, killing 36 people, including 22 children, highlighting ongoing concerns about firearm access and school safety.
