Google Pixel 11 Series Gets Major Camera Upgrades And New Tensor G6 Chip

Google has unveiled its latest Pixel smartphone lineup, introducing the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and foldable Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The new series brings upgraded cameras, improved zoom capabilities, enhanced durability and expanded artificial intelligence features, with Google's new Tensor G6 chipset powering all four devices. Google said the Pixel 11 series is built around its latest Tensor G6 processor, which also supports the newest Gemini Nano model. The company said the chipset is designed to provide faster and more capable on-device artificial intelligence functions, while Gemini-powered features are intended to offer users more personalised and time-saving assistance.

Google has increasingly integrated AI into its Pixel devices in recent years, making it a central part of the company's smartphone strategy. The new phones also feature IP68-rated protection and upgraded 5x telephoto cameras, according to Google. The company has focused heavily on photography and computational photography across the Pixel range, and the latest generation continues that approach with improvements aimed at zoom performance and capturing images in challenging conditions. Google has also redesigned the camera hardware, with the Pixel 11 featuring a camera that is said to be 40 per cent thinner than the one on the Pixel 10.

On the standard Pixel 11, the rear camera system comprises a 48MP wide camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto camera. The phone also features a 10.5MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Google is positioning the upgraded camera system as one of the key attractions of the new generation, with improvements designed to help users capture photographs across different lighting and shooting conditions.

Google has also introduced new software-based camera features. One of them, called Magic Capture, can automatically record a series of photographs and videos with a single tap of the shutter button. Another addition, Instant Night Sight, is designed to capture photographs in dark environments more quickly, reducing the amount of time users need to keep the phone steady during an exposure.

The new Pixel lineup reflects Google's broader effort to differentiate its smartphones through artificial intelligence and computational photography rather than relying solely on conventional hardware upgrades. The company said the devices are designed for what it calls Gemini Intelligence, combining the Tensor G6 chip with Google's latest AI capabilities. The emphasis on AI follows the company's strategy since 2023 of making artificial intelligence a more prominent part of the Pixel experience.

Alongside performance and camera improvements, Google has highlighted durability as another area of development in the new generation. The IP68 rating provides protection against dust and water under specified conditions, while the upgraded camera hardware is intended to offer greater photographic flexibility. The Pixel 11 Pro models and the foldable Pixel 11 Pro Fold extend the lineup into Google's higher-end and foldable smartphone categories. Google's latest launch comes as competition in the premium smartphone market continues to centre on artificial intelligence, camera performance and device design.

While Pixel phones have a smaller market presence than Apple's iPhone lineup in several major markets, Google has continued to invest in its hardware ecosystem and use its AI expertise as a key differentiator. The company has unveiled four devices as part of the Pixel 11 family, giving consumers options across standard, premium, large-screen and foldable formats. While Google has highlighted the new Tensor G6 processor, upgraded cameras and Gemini-powered features, the final appeal of the lineup will depend on factors including pricing, availability and how the new AI and photography tools perform in everyday use.
