Goa to Revolutionize Connectivity with New Fibre Network
Goa’s Game-Changing Internet Revolution Unveiled!
The Goa government has unveiled plans to lay a state-wide optical fibre network to deliver high-speed internet to every household, announced Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte during the ongoing monsoon assembly session. The ambitious ‘Har Ghar Fibre’ initiative aims to ensure seamless digital access across the coastal state.
Responding to a query from independent MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, Khaunte revealed that the network will bolster connectivity for education, healthcare, e-governance, commerce, and communication. Aligned with the Centre’s Digital India programme, the project prioritizes underserved areas to bridge the digital divide.
The initiative will leverage existing infrastructure like the Goa Broadband Network and BharatNet, operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Licensed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will deliver last-mile connectivity using shared or leased network access.
