German Envoy Invites Indians as U.S. H-1B Fees Rise

German envoy encourages Indian professionals amid U.S. visa fee surge.

In a strategic move to attract global talent, German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, has extended an open invitation to highly skilled Indian professionals to explore lucrative job opportunities in Germany’s IT, management, science, and technology sectors. This call comes at a pivotal moment, as the United States’ H-1B visa programme faces significant upheaval following a dramatic fee increase to $100,000 (approximately ₹88 lakh), a nearly 60% hike, under the administration of President Donald Trump.

In a video shared on X on Tuesday, Ackermann highlighted the earning potential for Indian professionals in Germany, noting that Indians are among the highest-earning groups in the country. “The average Indian working in Germany earns more than the average German,” he stated, emphasizing that high salaries reflect the significant contributions of Indian workers to Germany’s society and economy. “We believe in hard work and giving the best jobs to the best people,” he added.

Taking a subtle jab at the unpredictable shifts in U.S. immigration policies, Ackermann likened Germany’s migration framework to its renowned automotive industry. “Our migration policy works a bit like a German car: reliable, modern, predictable. It moves in a straight line with no zigzags, and you don’t have to fear a sudden stop at top speed,” he remarked, underscoring Germany’s stable and consistent immigration rules.

The U.S. H-1B visa fee hike has sparked widespread concern, particularly for Indian professionals, who constitute over 70% of the programme’s recipients. The steep cost increase poses a significant barrier for U.S. companies seeking to employ foreign talent, potentially deterring opportunities for Indian workers. In contrast, Germany’s proactive outreach and stable migration policies position it as an attractive destination for skilled professionals seeking career growth and stability.

As global competition for talent intensifies, Germany’s message is clear: Indian professionals are not only welcome but are also poised to thrive in one of Europe’s strongest economies.
