Gaza's civil defence agency reported that Israeli strikes killed at least seven people across the enclave on Friday, February 27, 2026, amid ongoing tensions despite a US-brokered ceasefire that entered its second phase last month.
The agency, operating under Hamas authorities as a rescue force, told AFP that a drone strike in the southern city of Khan Yunis shortly after midnight killed three people. An afternoon air strike targeted a tent sheltering displaced people west of Khan Yunis, claiming one more life. Two additional fatalities occurred from Israeli fire in separate incidents in the northern city of Beit Lahia, while a strike in central Gaza killed one person, bringing the total to at least seven.
The Israeli military confirmed conducting strikes throughout Gaza in response to a reported ceasefire violation the previous day in southern Rafah. According to the IDF, armed operatives emerged from a tunnel on the Israeli-controlled side of the ceasefire line, prompting troops from the Golani Brigade to direct an airstrike that eliminated several militants. Palestinian media reported pre-dawn strikes on Hamas-run police facilities in Khan Younis and the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, contributing to the casualties.

Violence has persisted in Gaza despite the truce, with both sides accusing each other of breaches. The civil defence agency's figures highlight continued risks to civilians, including those in displaced encampments and northern areas. The latest deaths add to the toll since the truce began, with Gaza's health ministry previously reporting over 600 Palestinians killed in the period. International mediators continue efforts to stabilize the agreement, though localized clashes and targeted operations remain frequent in southern and central zones. Authorities on both sides are monitoring developments closely as the situation evolves.
