G7 Summit: PM Modi Flags Maritime Security Issues And Global Conflicts
PM Modi raises maritime concerns, urges dialogue at G7 summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the G7 Outreach Session held in France on Tuesday, where he called for stronger global cooperation built on trust, transparency, and mutual understanding in an increasingly fragmented international environment. He emphasised that today’s world is deeply interconnected, making isolated approaches to global challenges increasingly ineffective.
During his address, the Prime Minister highlighted growing concerns over maritime security and the safety of seafarers who sustain global trade networks. He noted that disruptions in international waters are not only affecting commerce but also putting civilian lives at risk, including those of Indian nationals working at sea.
Referring to recent incidents, Modi stated that several Indians have lost their lives amid maritime disruptions. His remarks come in the backdrop of reports indicating the deaths of three Indian sailors in US strikes on a ship, underscoring the dangers faced by maritime personnel operating in conflict zones and sensitive shipping corridors.

The Prime Minister also drew attention to instability in West Asia and its wider global repercussions. He said countries in the region have experienced significant loss of life and property due to ongoing conflicts, while disruptions in key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz have had cascading effects on global energy supplies, trade flows, and economic stability.
Calling for urgent international attention to maritime safety, Modi stressed that seafarers who connect economies across continents must be able to carry out their duties without fear or insecurity. He urged the global community to ensure safe and secure sea lanes, describing maritime workers as essential contributors to globalisation whose protection is a shared responsibility.
Expanding his broader message, the Prime Minister said that modern global challenges—ranging from energy and food security to health systems, cyber threats, and economic resilience—are increasingly interlinked. He noted that no country can address these issues in isolation, and that international partnerships are now more important than ever. However, he cautioned that such partnerships can succeed only when they are anchored in trust, which he described as the most critical strategic asset in today’s world.
