Fresh Russian Barrage Leaves Nine Dead Across Kyiv And Surrounding Areas
Russian Strikes Kill Nine Around Kyiv.
At least nine people were killed and dozens wounded after Russian missile strikes hit Kyiv and surrounding areas overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday. The attacks damaged residential areas and warehouses in the capital, while a medical facility and an educational institution were also affected, according to officials. The strikes came amid an intensification of long-range attacks between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the Russian bombardment targeted several parts of the capital. The mayor initially reported casualties before later updating the death toll in Kyiv to eight, with 33 people wounded.
Emergency services were deployed to affected locations as authorities assessed the damage and responded to the consequences of the overnight strikes. The city's military administration said the attack also damaged a medical facility and an educational institution. The strikes on residential areas have raised fresh concerns about civilian safety as long-range missile and drone attacks have become increasingly frequent during the continuing war. Officials have repeatedly warned residents to take shelter when air-raid alerts are issued. A separate strike in the Brovary district of the wider Kyiv region killed one man and injured another, regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said.
According to Tkachenko, an industrial facility was damaged in the attack and a fire broke out at the site. Emergency and other relevant services were sent to the location and were working to contain the blaze. Ukraine's air force had earlier warned of Russian Kalibr cruise missiles moving towards the Kyiv area. The military said the missiles were detected in the vicinity of the village of Kagarlyk within the Kyiv region and were heading towards the capital. The warnings came as Ukrainian authorities sought to alert residents about the incoming threat and direct them towards shelters. The latest strikes come as Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range attacks in recent months.

Both sides have used missiles and drones to target locations far from the immediate front lines, increasing the risk to civilians and critical infrastructure. The escalation has contributed to a rising civilian death toll as the war continues. The attacks also demonstrate the continuing vulnerability of major Ukrainian cities despite extensive air-defence efforts. Kyiv has repeatedly been targeted by Russian missile and drone strikes since the full-scale invasion began. Ukrainian authorities have relied on air-defence systems and early-warning alerts to protect populated areas, but large-scale attacks can still result in deaths and significant damage.
The overnight bombardment adds to the mounting human cost of the conflict, which has now continued for more than four years. Residential buildings, industrial sites and public institutions have repeatedly been caught up in attacks, forcing emergency crews to respond to fires, structural damage and casualties. Ukrainian officials are expected to continue assessing the damage and casualty figures as emergency operations proceed. The reported toll of nine deaths across Kyiv and the surrounding region could change as rescue and recovery efforts continue. The latest attack underscores the persistent threat posed by Russia's long-range strikes and the continued danger faced by civilians in and around the Ukrainian capital.
