Four-Year-Old Hospitalised After Nagpur Grandmother Pours Hot Water
Four-year-old suffers burn injuries after domestic dispute during Holi celebrations in Nagpur.
A 62-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly pouring hot water on her four-year-old grandson for spraying colour on her during Holi celebrations, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the family’s residence in Nagpur and has triggered widespread concern over child safety.
According to local police officials, the child had been playing with colours as part of the Holi festivities when some of it accidentally landed on his grandmother. Angered by the act, the woman allegedly heated water and poured it on the boy, causing burn injuries. Neighbours reportedly heard the child crying and alerted other family members, who rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Doctors confirmed that the child sustained burn injuries but is currently in stable condition. Medical staff are closely monitoring his recovery, and authorities have indicated that further assessment will determine the severity of the burns. Police said the injuries were not immediately life-threatening, though the incident is being treated with seriousness given the victim’s age.

Following a complaint lodged by the child’s parents, officers registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt and cruelty toward a child. The accused was taken into custody and later produced before a local court, which remanded her to judicial custody pending further investigation.
Police officials stated that statements from family members and witnesses are being recorded to establish the sequence of events. Authorities also noted that domestic disputes and sudden emotional reactions during festivals can escalate quickly, but stressed that any act resulting in harm to a minor will be dealt with strictly under the law.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about child protection within households, particularly during festive occasions when supervision may lapse. Investigators said they will file a detailed chargesheet after completing the probe, while the child continues to receive medical care and support.
