Four Killed In Russian Missile And Drone Strikes In Northern Ukraine: Kyiv

Russian missile and drone strikes killed four people in northern Ukraine, according to Kyiv authorities.

Russian missile and drone strikes across northern Ukraine killed at least four people on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian officials, as fighting intensified in regions near the country’s northern border amid warnings from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about possible renewed offensives.

In the Chernigiv region, local authorities said Russia launched a ballistic missile targeting the centre of Pryluky, a town located around 150 kilometres east of Kyiv. Officials confirmed that at least two people were killed and 17 others injured in the attack, including a 14-year-old child. Emergency services were deployed to the site as rescue operations continued amid widespread damage.

Regional officials reported that the strike caused significant destruction to civilian infrastructure, including a shopping mall and a supermarket. Images shared by authorities showed damaged stalls, shattered windows, and debris scattered across commercial areas, highlighting the impact on non-military structures in the town centre.

Separately, in the northeastern Sumy region, two additional deaths were reported after Russian drone strikes hit a village near the border. The regional administration stated that the attack targeted civilian infrastructure in the Glukhiv area, killing two men aged 58 and 52, while also injuring four others who were taken for medical treatment.

The Sumy and Chernigiv regions have remained frequent targets of cross-border attacks since the early stages of the conflict in 2022, when Russian forces initially advanced into northern Ukraine before being pushed back by Ukrainian troops. Despite the withdrawal, both regions have continued to face periodic missile and drone strikes.

In recent days, President Zelenskyy has ordered increased military reinforcement along Ukraine’s northern frontier, citing concerns over possible renewed Russian activity from Belarus. However, Russian officials have dismissed such claims, as tensions remain high along the border regions amid ongoing military operations.
