Food Safety Concerns At Hyderabad’s Hotel Shadab Lead To Licence Suspension
Hotel Shadab faces licence suspension after multiple food safety violations.
The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has suspended the FSSAI licence of Hotel Shadab near Charminar following multiple food safety and hygiene violations. The action was taken during a special enforcement drive in Hyderabad, in which authorities inspected eateries across the city’s Core Urban Region to assess compliance with food safety and sanitation requirements.
Nine joint teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 19 cafes and snack centres during the operation. At Hotel Shadab in Madina, inspectors reported unhygienic food preparation areas, open garbage bins, littered waste and employees working without the required headgear. The findings prompted officials to order an immediate halt to operations at the popular eatery known for Hyderabadi biryani and Mughlai-Persian cuisine.
Inspectors also reported poor handling of meat and other perishable food items, along with evidence of cockroaches and houseflies in food preparation areas. The management allegedly failed to produce mandatory health records for food handlers, FoSTaC training certificates and pest-control logs. Authorities also destroyed perishable food items that were found exposed to dust and flies during the inspection.

Action was also taken against other establishments during the citywide drive. Asiatic Cafe in Panjagutta and Dreamz Cafeteria in Bagh Lingampally were ordered to shut down for allegedly operating without valid FSSAI licences or registrations. Officials seized 15 food samples, including tea powder, ginger-garlic paste and biscuits, for laboratory testing following concerns over possible adulteration.
Show-cause notices were issued to Golden Cafe, Mirosa Cafe, Asiatic Cafe, Dreamz Cafeteria and Hotel Shadab. Improvement notices were also served on 12 establishments, including Nimrah Cafe & Bakery, Blue Sea, Cafe Persia, Bahar Biryani Cafe and Diamond Point Hotel. The establishments have been directed to rectify the reported deficiencies before follow-up inspections.
The enforcement action comes as food safety authorities continue to monitor restaurants and food establishments for compliance with hygiene and licensing requirements. Officials have emphasised the need for proper food handling, pest control, staff training, sanitation and valid FSSAI registration or licensing to ensure food safety for consumers.
