Florida Moves to Rename Palm Beach Airport After Donald Trump

Florida Legislature Approves Bill to Rename Palm Beach Airport After President Trump, Awaiting DeSantis' Signature.

Florida’s Republican-led legislature has approved a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” The proposal, passed on Thursday, now awaits the signature of Governor Ron DeSantis to become law. The move marks a significant symbolic gesture in the president’s home state.

The airport is located in Palm Beach, just minutes away from Mar-a-Lago, the private residence and club owned by Donald Trump. Trump, a real estate developer turned politician, has long associated his name with major buildings and properties worldwide, and this renaming would further cement his presence in Florida.

Before the change becomes official, it must receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which oversees airport naming and regulatory procedures. Once cleared, the airport would become one of the most prominent public facilities in the United States to carry Trump’s name.

The development follows other efforts connected to Trump’s legacy branding. In December, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted to rename itself the “Trump-Kennedy Center.” Meanwhile, reported attempts to rename New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport after Trump did not move forward.

Additionally, the U.S. Treasury Department has reportedly drafted proposals for a commemorative $1 coin featuring Trump’s image. However, federal law currently prohibits the depiction of a living or sitting president on U.S. currency. If finalized, the airport renaming would stand as one of the most visible tributes to Trump during his time in office.
