Fire Breaks Out At Kuwait Airport After Drones Hit Fuel Tank, Damage Limited
Fire erupts at Kuwait airport after drone fuel strike
A fire broke out at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday after drones struck a fuel storage tank, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The incident, which occurred amid escalating regional tensions, resulted in what authorities described as “limited” damage, with no casualties reported.
In a statement citing preliminary information, the DGCA confirmed that emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the site. Firefighters were working to contain and extinguish the blaze, while officials assessed the extent of the damage caused by the strike.
Agency spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi said the situation was under control, emphasizing that safety protocols had been activated immediately following the attack. Authorities did not indicate any disruption beyond the affected area but noted that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
The Kuwait National Guard reported that its forces intercepted six drones earlier in the day, highlighting the scale of the attempted assault. Separately, the Kuwaiti army stated that its air defence systems were actively responding to what it described as hostile missile and drone attacks targeting the country.
Kuwait International Airport has been largely closed to commercial flights since the onset of the regional conflict on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran. Since then, the facility has faced multiple threats, reflecting the broader instability in the region as hostilities continue to intensify.
