Federal Judge Slams Trump’s Immigration Raids: Halts Unlawful Arrests in California!
A U.S. judge blocks the Trump administration’s “unconstitutional” immigration sweeps in seven California counties, citing racial profiling and denial of legal access.
U.S. District Judge Maame E. Frimpong issued a temporary restraining order halting the Trump administration’s indiscriminate immigration stops and arrests in seven California counties, including Los Angeles. The ruling, sparked by a lawsuit from immigrant advocacy groups, accuses federal agents of targeting brown-skinned individuals, conducting warrantless arrests, and denying detainees legal counsel, violating the Fourth and Fifth Amendments.
The lawsuit, filed last week, includes three detained immigrants and two U.S. citizens, one detained despite showing identification. Raids at car washes, Home Depots, and businesses like a Ventura County cannabis farm—where clashes with protesters injured several—have fueled public outcry, with tens of thousands rallying against the National Guard and Marines’ deployment. The ACLU claims an “arbitrary arrest quota” drives these raids, targeting Latinos based on stereotypes, such as detaining day laborers for wearing construction clothes.
Judge Frimpong also barred restrictions on attorney access at a Los Angeles ICE facility, “B-18,” where lawyers reported being blocked since June, with one incident involving tear gas-like munitions to silence them. Government attorney Sean Skedzielewski denied racial profiling, claiming arrests followed “targeted, individualized packages” and complied with Fourth Amendment policies. However, Frimpong cited a “mountain of evidence” of unconstitutional tactics.

The White House called the ruling an overreach, insisting immigration policy lies with Congress and the President. With 18 Democratic states backing the order and prior restrictions on warrantless arrests in eastern California, this decision marks a significant challenge to Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
