Etihad Rail’s First Dubai-Abu Dhabi Passenger Train Completes Journey In Just 64 Minutes

Dubai-Abu Dhabi Rail Journey Begins

The first Etihad Rail passenger train connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi completed its inaugural journey on Wednesday, marking the start of regular passenger services between the two emirates. The train departed from Dubai’s newly opened Al Yalayis Station at 6:14 am and arrived at Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi at 7:18 am, taking 64 minutes. The return service departed Abu Dhabi at 7:43 am and reached Dubai at 8:47 am. The launch expands the UAE’s national passenger rail network and provides another transport option for people travelling between the country’s major cities.

The Dubai-Abu Dhabi service will operate five trains in each direction every day, giving passengers multiple options for travelling between the two emirates. The scheduled Dubai departures are at 6:14 am, 7:14 am, 1:14 pm, 5:14 pm and 6:14 pm, while services from Abu Dhabi to Dubai are scheduled at 6:43 am, 7:43 am, 12:43 pm, 4:43 pm and 5:43 pm. Etihad Rail had opened ticket bookings ahead of the launch, with fares on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi route starting at Dh39 for Comfort Class. Premium Class fares start at Dh109.

The new trains can travel at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and can accommodate as many as 400 passengers. Etihad Rail said the passenger service includes guaranteed seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, charging points and dedicated luggage areas. Passengers can also access refreshments during their journey. The service is designed to connect with other modes of public transport, allowing passengers to continue their journeys after reaching either station rather than relying solely on private vehicles.

Dubai’s Al Yalayis Station, located near Jumeirah Golf Estates, has been designed as an interchange between Etihad Rail and Dubai’s wider public transport network. A dedicated elevated pedestrian bridge connects the station with Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station on the Dubai Metro Red Line. Passengers can therefore transfer between the intercity rail service and the metro, while taxis, buses and private pick-up and drop-off facilities are also available at the station. Etihad Rail has also integrated options for passengers to add a one-day Dubai Metro Nol ticket while booking their rail journey.

The expansion is not limited to the Dubai-Abu Dhabi route. Etihad Rail is also operating passenger services connecting Abu Dhabi with Fujairah, with six daily services on that route. A direct Dubai-Fujairah service has also been made available through the expanded passenger network, with the journey expected to take about 70 minutes. The Abu Dhabi-Fujairah passenger service began on June 30, while the opening of Al Yalayis Station has now extended the network into Dubai.

The launch represents a further expansion of the UAE’s national passenger railway network, with Etihad Rail aiming to provide faster inter-emirate connections and integrated transport options. The Dubai-Abu Dhabi service gives passengers an alternative to road travel between the two cities, with scheduled journey times of just over an hour. With bookings now available through Etihad Rail’s website and mobile application, passengers can select their stations, travel times and class before travelling.
