Elon Musk’s xAI Launches Grok 4.1: Smarter, More Emotional AI Model Now Available to All Users
xAI unveils Grok 4.1 with major upgrades in creativity, emotional intelligence, and accuracy, outpacing rival AI models.
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm xAI has rolled out its latest language model, Grok 4.1, marking a significant upgrade to its existing AI technology. The new model, a successor to Grok 4 released in July, is now accessible to all users worldwide through Grok.com, X (formerly Twitter), and the official Android and iOS applications. According to xAI, Grok 4.1 represents a major leap in performance, featuring improved emotional intelligence, creative expression, and factual accuracy.
In a newsroom announcement, xAI confirmed that the Grok 4.1 update had been quietly tested between November 1 and November 14, during which users unknowingly interacted with both versions. Feedback data revealed a clear preference: 64.78 percent of participants favored Grok 4.1’s responses over Grok 4, reflecting stronger engagement and user satisfaction. Now integrated as the default model in Auto mode, Grok 4.1 can also be manually selected from its dedicated menu for users who wish to compare versions directly.
xAI shared internal benchmark results showcasing how Grok 4.1 outperformed competing models, including Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro, Anthropic’s Claude 4.5 Sonnet, and OpenAI’s GPT-5 in specific tests. The model scored 1,585 points on the EQ-Bench (1,586 when using the “Thinking” variant), underscoring its stronger ability to comprehend tone, context, and subtle emotional cues from user prompts. This advancement allows Grok 4.1 to interpret human emotions more naturally, responding in ways that feel empathetic and conversational.

Creativity has also seen a pronounced boost. In the Creative Writing v3 benchmark, Grok 4.1 achieved a score of 1,708.6, surpassing Claude 4.5 Sonnet. This upgrade positions it as a more versatile tool for storytelling, content generation, and social media writing. The model now produces more fluid and contextually relevant creative text, reflecting a step closer toward human-like articulation of ideas.
In addition to these improvements, xAI said the model now generates fewer hallucinations—a major challenge in large language models. Grok 4.1’s refined architecture minimizes factual inaccuracies, improving reliability in analytical and research-driven responses. By merging emotional sensitivity with creative sharpness and factual stability, the new release aims to challenge dominant players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. For xAI, Grok 4.1 represents another milestone in its mission to develop AI systems that not only compute efficiently but also understand and reflect human complexity.
