Egyptian Man Saves Boy After He Falls From Balcony

Quick reaction prevents a potentially tragic balcony accident.

A young Egyptian man has been praised for his quick reaction after catching a five-year-old boy who fell from a second-floor balcony in the Ard El-Lewa area of Giza. The dramatic rescue was captured on camera and later circulated widely on social media. Ahmed Ragab was reportedly near a shop when he heard shouting and crying before looking towards a nearby building and noticing the child falling.

According to Gulf News, Ragab immediately moved towards the boy and positioned himself underneath him as the child fell. During the fall, the boy struck a washing line, which briefly slowed his descent and gave Ragab additional time to reach him. Ragab managed to catch the child before he hit the ground, while people nearby quickly gathered around following the rescue.

Ragab later described the incident as happening so quickly that he did not have time to think about his own safety. He said his reaction was instinctive after he saw the child in danger and that his focus was solely on preventing the boy from reaching the ground. It was only after the child was safe that he realised how serious the situation had been.

The Egyptian man also acknowledged that he could not fully explain how he managed to reach the child in time. Despite the attention generated by the rescue, Ragab has played down the praise surrounding his actions. He said his only concern at that moment was to prevent the child from being seriously hurt.

The footage of the rescue subsequently spread across Egyptian social media, where users praised Ragab's presence of mind and rapid response. The incident has also renewed attention on the risks young children can face around balconies and windows. Ragab urged parents and caregivers to supervise children closely and avoid keeping chairs or other objects near such areas that could allow them to climb up.
