External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held wide-ranging discussions with his Mongolian counterpart Battsetseg Batmunkh in Ulaanbaatar on June 22, focusing on strengthening India-Mongolia cooperation across development, security, and strategic sectors.
The meeting reviewed the progress of bilateral ties under the India-Mongolia strategic partnership, with both sides assessing ongoing collaboration in areas such as capacity building, education, culture, and development projects. The discussions also included expansion of cooperation in emerging fields like clean energy, mining, and agri-processing, reflecting a broader effort to deepen economic engagement between the two nations.

Jaishankar arrived in Mongolia on a two-day official visit, where he is scheduled to engage with senior leadership and review various aspects of bilateral cooperation. His visit is seen as part of India’s continued outreach to strengthen ties with Mongolia, which remains an important partner in India’s “Act East” and broader Eurasian engagement strategy.
The foundation of India-Mongolia diplomatic relations dates back to 1955, making India the first country outside the Socialist bloc to establish formal ties with Ulaanbaatar. Over the decades, cooperation has expanded to include education, defence training, and multilateral coordination, including support for Mongolia’s participation in global institutions such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
After concluding his engagements in Mongolia, Jaishankar is expected to travel to the Republic of Korea for further diplomatic discussions and to participate in the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, where he will deliver a keynote address and hold talks with his South Korean counterpart.
