Drones Spotted Over Fort McNair Where Rubio and Hegseth Live Amid US-Iran War
Unidentified drones over Fort McNair trigger White House security meeting amid Iran war.
Unidentified drones were reportedly spotted over Fort Lesley J. McNair, a high-security US Army installation, prompting heightened security measures and urgent discussions within the US administration. According to a report by The Washington Post, the sightings occurred on multiple occasions over the past 10 days, including one night when several drones were seen flying over the base, raising serious concerns amid ongoing tensions linked to the Iran conflict.
The base, located just a few kilometres from key government institutions such as the White House and Capitol Hill, houses the National Defence University and residences of top officials, including Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth. Officials noted that Fort McNair does not have the same extensive security buffer as other military installations in the capital region, adding to concerns about potential vulnerabilities exposed by the drone activity.
Following the incidents, US authorities reportedly reviewed security protocols and discussed possible contingency measures, including relocating senior officials residing at the base. However, sources indicated that no relocation has taken place so far. The origin and intent of the drones remain unclear, with investigations ongoing to determine whether they pose a direct threat or are part of surveillance or other hostile activity.

The sightings come at a sensitive time as the United States continues military operations in coordination with Israel targeting Iran. Officials have acknowledged that the evolving geopolitical situation has heightened security risks, prompting closer monitoring of potential threats both domestically and internationally.
The administration of Donald Trump has not issued an official statement regarding the drone sightings. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell declined to comment on the matter, citing security concerns, and warned against public reporting of sensitive movements of senior officials. The lack of detailed disclosure has further underscored the seriousness of the situation.
The incident follows a series of recent security alerts across US military installations, including lockdowns at MacDill Air Force Base, home to US Central Command. Authorities are also investigating a suspicious package incident linked to the base. Analysts note that drone-related threats have increased in recent years, particularly after the 2020 killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, with concerns intensifying amid the current conflict involving Iran and its regional adversaries.
