Dirt Bike Rider Caught After Hour-Long Police Chase in Los Angeles
Dirt bike rider caught after hour-long police chase in LA.
A dirt bike rider led police on a chaotic pursuit lasting more than an hour after officers began searching for him near Dodger Stadium. The incident started shortly before 5:40 pm when police were reportedly looking for a man suspected of displaying a firearm while riding in public. Authorities later said the dirt bike had also been reported stolen. Instead of stopping for officers, the rider accelerated away and headed through busy parts of Los Angeles.
The pursuit continued through surface streets toward downtown Los Angeles and later into South Los Angeles. During the chase, the rider allegedly ran red lights, travelled on the wrong side of the road and made several sudden turns. He was also reportedly seen using a cellphone while riding. Police vehicles remained behind him as he continued attempting to evade capture, creating dangerous situations for motorists and pedestrians along his route.
The chase took an unusual turn when the rider stopped to look for fuel. He reportedly entered an area near Florence before stopping at Athens Park, where he collected a gallon container of petrol that had been left behind. He attempted to put the fuel into the dirt bike while officers continued following him. The rider then sped away again, forcing pedestrians nearby to move out of his path. He had reportedly also tried to refuel at a petrol station earlier during the pursuit.

The rider's route later took him through a park in West Rancho Dominguez, where children were playing soccer. He allegedly drove across the field as people moved away to avoid being struck. During the pursuit, the dirt bike also sideswiped a car and knocked off its side-view mirror. The rider was reportedly seen making gestures toward pursuing officers and repeatedly turning around to look at the police vehicles behind him.
After more than an hour of evasive driving, the pursuit eventually ended when the rider apparently lost control of the dirt bike and fell. He abandoned the vehicle and ran through nearby backyards, jumping over fences and walls while officers closed in. The suspect reportedly suffered an injury during the escape but continued running before eventually attempting to hide inside a trash or recycling bin.
Police located the suspect inside the container and ordered him out with their weapons drawn. He was taken into custody without further incident. The dramatic pursuit was captured by television helicopters, showing the rider's movements across several parts of Los Angeles County. Authorities are expected to determine the charges linked to the alleged firearm display, the reported stolen dirt bike and the dangerous driving during the pursuit.
