Dhaka Court Orders Interpol 'Red Notice' Request Against UK MP
Dhaka court instructs officials to initiate Interpol red notice process against British parliamentarian.
A court in Bangladesh has directed authorities to initiate steps to seek an Interpol Red Notice for the arrest of a British Member of Parliament in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation. The order instructs relevant agencies to formally approach Interpol to facilitate the individual’s potential detention abroad pending further legal proceedings.
The directive was issued during a hearing related to allegations that are currently under judicial scrutiny. Prosecutors informed the court that the accused, who is reportedly outside Bangladesh, had not responded to summons and that efforts to secure cooperation through standard legal channels had been unsuccessful. The court subsequently authorised the process to request international assistance.
A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant but a request circulated by Interpol to law enforcement agencies worldwide, seeking the location and provisional arrest of a person pending extradition or similar legal action. Any such notice is subject to review under Interpol’s rules, including safeguards against political or improperly motivated cases. The final decision to detain an individual rests with the law enforcement authorities of the country where the person is located.

Legal experts note that extradition proceedings, if pursued, would depend on bilateral treaties and domestic laws in the relevant jurisdiction. The United Kingdom’s legal framework requires judicial assessment before approving extradition requests, including evaluation of evidence and compliance with human rights standards. As of now, no official statement has been issued by UK authorities regarding the matter.
The case underscores the increasing use of international policing mechanisms in cross-border investigations. Bangladeshi authorities are expected to submit necessary documentation through official channels, after which Interpol will determine whether the request meets its criteria for circulation among member states.
