Delhi Police Announces Major Traffic Diversions Across National Capital For Janmashtami

With Janmashtami celebrations expected to draw a large number of devotees to the Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham Temple in Narela, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement and public safety in the area surrounding the temple during the festival period. The advisory will remain in effect from 7:00 a.m. on September 4, 2026, until 1:00 a.m. on September 5, 2026, covering the primary period during which large crowds are anticipated to gather for the celebrations.
During this window, heavy pedestrian movement around the temple is expected to significantly affect traffic flow, particularly along the busy National Highway-44 (NH-44) stretch between Singhu Border and Mukarba Chowk, an area that regularly experiences substantial commuter and commercial vehicle traffic even under normal circumstances. Given the anticipated congestion, commuters have been advised to avoid this section of NH-44 as far as possible during the specified hours.
To help ease the burden on this stretch, traffic authorities have suggested that motorists use the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and Palla-Bakhtawarpur Road as alternative routes, providing commuters with viable options to bypass the affected area while continuing their journeys with minimal disruption. The advisory also notes that traffic diversions may be introduced at key points depending on how conditions develop throughout the day, with authorities identifying Singhu Border, Bakoli on UER-II, and Mukarba Chowk as specific locations where such diversions could be implemented.
