Delhi Airport's Upgraded Terminal 2 To Open From October 26

Terminal 2 at IGIA is set to handle increased passenger traffic from late October.

The upgraded Terminal 2 at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the country’s busiest airport, will commence operations on October 26, 2025, increasing the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity to 100 million. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates IGIA, announced that the revamped terminal will handle approximately 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and IndiGo, starting from the night of October 25-26, coinciding with the winter schedule.

Originally built 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Terminal 2 was closed in April 2025 for extensive upgrades to modernize its infrastructure and enhance passenger experience. The airport currently operates Terminals 1 and 3, with four runways facilitating around 1,400 daily flight movements. The reopening of Terminal 2 is expected to alleviate pressure on the existing terminals and improve operational efficiency.

IGIA, a critical hub for domestic and international travel, serves millions of passengers annually. The upgrade aligns with India’s growing aviation demands, supporting the government’s push to bolster airport infrastructure. The enhanced terminal is anticipated to offer improved facilities, streamlined operations, and greater convenience for travelers.

DIAL’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to elevating IGIA’s status as a world-class aviation hub. Further details on the terminal’s new features and passenger amenities are expected closer to the launch date.
