Cyclist Sets Record For Highest Vertical Drop Onto A Target

A cyclist combines height, balance and precision in a record-setting feat.

Austrian mountain biker Mario Neurauter has secured a Guinness World Records title for the highest vertical drop on a bicycle onto a target in the men's category. Neurauter achieved the record by dropping 3.80 metres (12.46 feet) from an elevated platform while riding his mountain bike and landing on a designated target. The feat was completed on September 13, 2025, during the Bike Republic Sölden Festival in Austria, with the record officially reported by Guinness World Records in October 2026.

The 20-year-old rider performed the attempt at an event that brought together members of the international mountain biking community. The challenge required him not only to descend from a considerable height but also to land accurately on a small target. Neurauter successfully guided his bicycle onto the landing point, demonstrating the precision and control required to complete the record attempt.

Speaking to Guinness World Records, Neurauter said he had not specifically trained for landing on a target of that kind. He explained that although he was not frightened by the drop itself, he knew that hitting the target would be difficult and was unsure how many attempts he would need. The successful landing ultimately secured his place in the record books.

Neurauter has been riding mountain bikes for seven years and hopes to pursue the sport professionally. He viewed the festival as an ideal setting for his attempt because it brought together riders and enthusiasts from across the mountain biking world. The event also provided an opportunity to attempt additional records, including the highest vertical drop on a bicycle and the highest 360-degree vertical drop on a bicycle onto a target.

The results of those additional attempts were still under review by Guinness World Records, according to the organisation's report. Neurauter's confirmed achievement therefore marks one milestone from a weekend in which he pursued multiple challenges. The record also highlights the combination of balance, technical ability and accuracy required in competitive mountain biking, particularly when riders must control their bicycles during descents from elevated platforms.

Despite his demanding riding activities, Neurauter told Guinness World Records that he had not been injured while performing drops of this kind, although he had broken his collarbone twice during his riding career. He hopes to continue improving his skills and move closer to his ambition of becoming a professional mountain biker. His latest achievement adds an international record to his growing experience in the sport.
