Court Orders Release of Seized Kanpur Lamborghini on Rs 8.30 Crore Bond After Crash Probe

A Kanpur court orders the release of the seized Lamborghini Revuelto on an Rs 8.30 crore bond.

A court in Kanpur has ordered the release of a seized Lamborghini Revuelto involved in a high-profile crash case after the vehicle owner furnished a bond of ₹8.30 crore. The luxury sports car had been impounded earlier this month following an accident that left six people injured. The order was passed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court after reviewing technical reports related to the incident.

The court issued the release directive on Friday after a petition was filed by the legal counsel of Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco businessman K.K. Mishra. A single-judge bench led by Suraj Mishra examined mechanical assessments submitted by police and technical experts before allowing the vehicle’s release with specific conditions. The court also directed the owner to submit an undertaking ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

The accident occurred on February 8 on Kanpur’s VIP Road when the high-end Italian car, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into multiple vehicles. According to police, the car first hit an e-rickshaw, then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, flinging its rider nearly 10 feet away. The vehicle subsequently dragged the motorcycle for some distance before crashing into an electric pole and coming to a halt.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Shivam Mishra was driving at the time of the crash, with video footage and eyewitness accounts reportedly supporting this claim. However, Mishra’s legal team has denied the allegation, maintaining that his driver Mohan was behind the wheel when the accident occurred. The defence has continued to contest the prosecution’s version of events.

Mishra was arrested four days after the incident on charges including rash and negligent driving, endangering life and causing hurt by dangerous means. He was later granted bail after furnishing a bond of ₹20,000. The case drew widespread attention due to the involvement of the ultra-luxury vehicle and the seriousness of the crash.

In a significant development, driver Mohan later appeared before a Kanpur court claiming responsibility for the accident. He alleged that Mishra had suffered a sudden seizure, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, and that a malfunction in the car’s auto-lock system delayed his exit. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the competing claims.
