China Demands US Pull Missiles From Japan, Warns Of Arms Race

China demands US withdraw Typhon missile system from Japan.

China on Tuesday demanded the immediate withdrawal of the US-deployed Typhon mid-range missile system from Japan, labeling it a serious threat to regional stability. Speaking at a media briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian condemned the US and Japan for proceeding with the deployment under the guise of joint military exercises, despite China’s repeated objections.

“China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this move,” Lin declared, accusing the US of undermining the security interests of Asian nations. He warned that the Typhon system’s presence in Japan heightens the risk of a regional arms race and military confrontation, posing a “substantial threat to strategic security.” The spokesperson urged both nations to respect the concerns of neighboring countries and contribute to peace, rather than fueling conflict.

The call for withdrawal follows China’s earlier protests against the Typhon system’s deployment in the Philippines, where tensions over the South China Sea have already strained relations. The Philippines’ recent acquisition of BrahMos missiles from India has further complicated the regional security landscape, amplifying China’s concerns about growing military alignments in Asia.

Lin emphasized that the US and Japan must “heed the call from regional countries” and remove the Typhon system immediately to avoid further destabilization. The deployment, seen as a counter to China’s expanding influence, has sparked fears of an escalating arms race in the Asia-Pacific. As diplomatic frictions intensify, analysts warn that the standoff could reshape regional alliances and security dynamics, with China signaling it will not back down from its hardline stance.
