China urges Taliban to protect its nationals and investigate Kabul restaurant blast that killed one Chinese citizen.
China has urged the Taliban-led interim government in Afghanistan to take immediate action to protect its nationals, projects, and institutions following a deadly blast at a Chinese restaurant in Kabul on Monday. The explosion killed 20 people, with the Islamic State claiming responsibility for the attack.
One Chinese national was among the deceased, while five others sustained injuries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed during a media briefing. China expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and sympathy for those injured in the incident.
Guo stated that Beijing has made urgent representations to Afghan authorities, urging them to save and treat the wounded, ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and projects, conduct a thorough investigation, and bring the perpetrators to justice as quickly as possible.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated its strong opposition to terrorism and voiced support for Afghanistan and regional countries in joint efforts to combat violent extremism. The ministry emphasized that safeguarding civilians and foreign nationals remains a top priority amid Afghanistan’s volatile security situation.
In response to the incident, China advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Afghanistan and recommended that those already in the country enhance security measures, exercise extreme caution, and leave high-risk areas promptly. Authorities also urged Chinese companies operating in Afghanistan to review safety protocols and reinforce protection for staff and assets.
Analysts say the attack underscores persistent security challenges in Kabul and highlights the risks faced by foreign nationals and investors. The incident is expected to intensify international calls for robust counterterrorism measures in Afghanistan, particularly around Chinese-linked projects and institutions.
