CBSE Cancels Today's Board Exams, Students Must Now Prepare for Revised Schedule

CBSE postpones the March 3 exams, citing administrative reasons; revised dates are now confirmed.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that no Class 10 or Class 12 board examinations will be conducted on March 3, 2026, after the papers scheduled for the day were postponed due to administrative reasons. The decision was communicated earlier through an official notification issued by the board. Students and parents were informed that the affected examinations would be rescheduled, while all other papers in the ongoing board examination cycle would proceed as per the original timetable without any changes.

According to the revised schedule, the postponed Class 10 examinations will now be held on March 11, 2026, while the affected Class 12 examination has been rescheduled to April 10, 2026. The board has directed all CBSE-affiliated schools to promptly inform students and guardians about the updated dates to avoid confusion. Officials clarified that apart from these specific subjects, the remaining examination schedule for both classes will continue unchanged, ensuring minimal disruption to the broader examination process.

For Class 10 students, the rescheduled papers include subjects under Regional and Foreign Languages (Group-L) and certain Academic Electives (Group-A2). Languages affected by the postponement include Tibetan, Bhoti, Bhutia, Bodo, Tangkhul, Mizo, Kashmiri, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Bahasa Melayu. Additionally, elective subjects such as National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Elements of Bookkeeping and Accountancy will also be conducted on March 11 under the revised timetable issued by the board.

In Class 12, the legal studies examination originally slated for March 3 will now take place on April 10, 2026. The board confirmed that this is the only Class 12 paper impacted by the administrative revision. Students preparing for legal studies have been advised to take note of the new date and continue preparations accordingly, as no further modifications to the Class 12 schedule have been announced at this stage.

In a circular dated December 29, 2025, Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations at the CBSE, formally informed principals of affiliated institutions about the change. The communication stated that examinations scheduled for March 3, 2026, had been rescheduled due to administrative reasons and specified the new dates for both classes. Schools were instructed to update their internal date sheets and ensure that all stakeholders receive accurate information in a timely manner.

The board further stated that the revised examination dates will be reflected in students’ admit cards to prevent discrepancies at examination centres. This year, Class 10 board examinations are scheduled to conclude on March 10, while Class 12 examinations will continue until April 10. In 2026, students are appearing for 83 subjects in Class 10 and 120 subjects in Class 12, making the timely dissemination of schedule updates crucial for the smooth conduct of the nationwide examination process.
