Canada Launches Manhunt for 27-Year-Old Indian-Origin Suspect in Targeted Ontario Killing

Manpreet Singh flees after murdering Amanpreet Saini.

Canadian authorities have issued a nationwide arrest warrant and activated international alerts for 27-year-old Indian-origin suspect Manpreet Singh, charged with second-degree murder in the brutal killing of Amanpreet Saini, a fellow Punjabi immigrant. The victim’s severely injured body was discovered by a jogger on October 21 at Charles Daley Park in Lincoln, Ontario, near Lake Ontario’s shoreline. Niagara Regional Police confirmed the attack was targeted, ruling out random violence.

Amanpreet Saini, originally from Prem Basti, Sangrur, Punjab, had been living and working in Canada for four years on a study-work visa. She was last seen alive on October 19 leaving her Brampton apartment. Police believe Manpreet Singh, who shared social and community ties with the victim, fled the country within 36 hours of the murder, possibly via Toronto Pearson International Airport using alternate travel documents. Investigators are reviewing flight manifests to India, UAE, and Southeast Asia.

The suspect stands 6 feet tall, weighs 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, but police warn he may have drastically changed his appearance – shaving his head, growing facial hair, or wearing disguises. Interpol has circulated a Red Notice, and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is coordinating with Indian authorities in Punjab, Delhi, and Mumbai to monitor known associates. A $50,000 reward is now under formal consideration.

This case follows a disturbing pattern. Earlier in 2025, Delta Police in British Columbia renewed a Canada-wide appeal for Gurkirat Singh, another Punjabi national wanted for child sexual assault, who vanished after posting bail. Both incidents highlight challenges in tracking high-risk fugitives within Canada’s large South Asian diaspora, particularly when family networks span continents.

Niagara Police urge anyone with information – especially in Greater Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, or Punjab villages – to contact detectives immediately via the dedicated tip line. The victim’s family in Sangrur has launched a public campaign demanding swift extradition, vowing to pursue justice across borders.
