CAIT Urges Nationwide Boycott of Turkiye, Azerbaijan Over Pakistan Support

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) announced a complete boycott of trade and commercial ties with Turkiye and Azerbaijan, citing their support for Pakistan during India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

The decision, made at CAIT’s National Conference of Trade Leaders with representatives from 24 states, aims to halt imports of Turkish and Azerbaijani goods and discourage Indian exporters from engaging with these nations.

CAIT will submit a memorandum to the Ministries of Commerce and External Affairs, urging a policy review of commercial relations with Turkiye and Azerbaijan.

The traders’ body also called for boycotting Indian films and product promotions filmed in these countries, reflecting national sentiment against their stance. “The collective Indian trading community views this as a betrayal,” CAIT stated, highlighting India’s past humanitarian aid to both nations, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support during their crises.

The boycott extends a growing movement, with Alwar’s fruit traders banning Turkish apples and travel agencies like MakeMyTrip reporting a 60% drop in bookings to Turkiye and Azerbaijan, with cancellations up 250%.

Turkiye’s military aid to Pakistan, including drones, and Azerbaijan’s condemnation of India’s strikes have fueled outrage, prompting calls for economic retaliation to impact their tourism-driven economies.
