British Airways Launches Probe Into Pilots Falling Sick After Hyderabad Stop

British Airways has launched an internal investigation after three pilots operating a flight from Hyderabad to London Heathrow reportedly fell ill with suspected food poisoning during the journey. The incident involved British Airways flight BA276, which departed Hyderabad following an overnight stopover in the city. The airline has confirmed that it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident while maintaining that passenger safety was not compromised at any stage of the flight.

According to media reports, one of the pilots became seriously unwell while the aircraft was cruising at an altitude of approximately 30,000 feet, leaving the crew member unable to perform operational duties. The pilot was reportedly administered oxygen on board before receiving medical treatment after the aircraft landed safely in London. The remaining two pilots, who also experienced symptoms during the flight, continued to operate the aircraft despite reportedly feeling increasingly unwell as the journey progressed.

British Airways said the flight landed safely and stressed that established safety procedures ensured there was no risk to passengers. Commercial aircraft are operated under strict aviation regulations that require sufficient qualified flight crew to safely manage the aircraft even if a pilot becomes incapacitated. The airline has not confirmed the exact cause of the illness, and the reported food poisoning remains under investigation.

As part of its inquiry, British Airways is reviewing its hotel and catering arrangements in Hyderabad to determine whether contaminated food may have contributed to the incident. The findings of the investigation are expected to help establish the cause of the suspected food poisoning and determine whether any changes to crew accommodation or meal arrangements are required.
