Brigade Parade Ground To Have Multi-Layered Security For Bengal BJP Swearing-In Event
Around 4,000 personnel will secure Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground during Bengal BJP government swearing-in ceremony.
Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground will be placed under a multi-layered security cover ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of West Bengal’s first BJP government, scheduled for Friday. Authorities said nearly 4,000 police personnel will be deployed across the sprawling venue and adjoining areas to manage security and crowd movement during the high-profile event, which is expected to draw senior political leaders and thousands of attendees.
According to a senior state police officer, the more than 900-acre Brigade Parade Ground has been divided into around 30 sectors to ensure effective crowd management and coordinated surveillance. Each sector will be supervised by an officer of the rank of deputy commissioner or assistant commissioner, reflecting the scale and sensitivity of the arrangements being put in place.
The swearing-in ceremony is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Police officials anticipate a massive public turnout, prompting authorities to intensify preparations at one of Kolkata’s largest public grounds, which has historically hosted major political rallies and state events.

Senior officers at Lalbazar, the headquarters of Kolkata Police, conducted a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to finalize the security blueprint for the ceremony. Officials said multiple layers of screening will be implemented at all entry points, including the installation of door-frame metal detectors and handheld scanning devices. CCTV cameras will also be deployed across the venue to maintain continuous monitoring.
Police officials said surveillance teams will monitor nearby rooftops and surrounding buildings as part of broader anti-sabotage and crowd-control measures. Authorities have also stressed that strict checks will be carried out to prevent prohibited or dangerous items from being brought into the venue. Officials indicated that Central Armed Police Forces could be deployed if additional security support becomes necessary.
Traffic restrictions and diversions are expected around Brigade Parade Ground and nearby roads on the day of the event to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement of dignitaries and attendees. Police have urged commuters to follow advisories that are likely to be issued ahead of the ceremony as Kolkata prepares for one of the state’s most significant political events in recent years.
