Boeing Says China Will Buy 200 Aircraft Under New Aviation Agreement

Boeing confirmed China will purchase 200 aircraft under a major aviation deal.

Boeing on Friday confirmed that China had committed to purchasing 200 aircraft, marking a significant breakthrough for the US aerospace giant as it seeks to rebuild business ties with one of the world’s largest aviation markets. The announcement follows comments made earlier by US President Donald Trump during his visit to China.

In a statement, Boeing said the trip to China had been “very successful” and helped achieve the company’s major objective of reopening the Chinese market to new Boeing aircraft orders. The company noted that the agreement includes an “initial commitment” for 200 aircraft and expressed confidence that additional commitments could follow in the future.

Boeing also thanked the Trump administration for facilitating the development. The company’s chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, was part of the US delegation that travelled to China during the visit. Boeing said it now looks forward to addressing China’s growing aircraft demand as global aviation markets continue expanding after years of supply-chain and geopolitical disruptions.

China’s last major order from Boeing came in 2017 during Trump’s first term in office, when Beijing agreed to purchase 300 single-aisle and wide-body aircraft in a deal valued at approximately $37 billion. Since then, relations between Boeing and Chinese regulators have faced turbulence due to trade tensions, safety concerns surrounding the 737 MAX, and broader geopolitical competition between Washington and Beijing.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump referred to the latest agreement as a major economic opportunity, saying the deal would support a large number of American jobs. Later, while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested the broader arrangement could eventually involve as many as 750 aircraft if the initial 200-plane phase progresses successfully.

Reports in US media over recent months indicated that China had been considering a large-scale Boeing order that could include hundreds of 737 MAX aircraft along with larger 787 Dreamliners and 777 wide-body jets. A final agreement of that scale would represent one of the largest commercial aircraft deals in aviation history and could significantly strengthen Boeing’s position in the Chinese market amid intensifying global competition with Airbus.
